Me as a teacher.

The type of teacher I want to be as I said before is one that students and faculty remember. I want to be a teacher who knows what and who she is teaching. I am going to try my best to meet all my students needs. I am also going to strive to meet all the criteria. I want to make a difference in my students life. I do not want to be the teacher that does what he/she is told to do. I want to go the extra mile and plant that seed in my students and show them they can be whatever they want to be.

Parent Involvement

I believe parent/guardian involvment is very important. Not only does it show the parent/guardian how their student is doing but it also allows positive feedback for the students. If the parent/guardian is involved it shows the student that they care about what they are doing. If students see that their parent/guardian cares about what they are doing in school the student will want to keep going to well and take it home to show their parent/guardian.

There are different ways to involve parents/guardians. One way is to have my classroom open for them to come in and see what goes on. If the parent/guardian knows they are welcome in the classroom it shows them the teacher not only cares about the parent being involved but also the teacher is willing to work with the student and parent in any way he/she can. Another way to involve the parent/guardian is to send home weekly or monthly newsletters. Sending home newsletters lets the parent/guardian know what is going on in the classroom. It tells the parent what projects we will be doing, when test are, and also homework.

Keeping parents/guardians involved makes for a better class flow and parent/teacher involvment.

How can i be an example!

When I become a teacher I want to be the teacher my students remember. I want to be a role model to my students. I plan to not only teach my students the curriculum but also right and wrong. I hope my students will learn from me how they should act at school, home, and in public. I know some students will not grow up in a home where they learn right from wrong that is why I feel it is important to teach them. Hopefully when they leave my classroom they will be respectful, curdious, and have good manners, saying yes sir/mam and no sir/mam.

Teaching Strategies

I am learing new teaching strategies as I proceed through college. I hope to learn more and more about new ways of teaching. Every student has a different way of learing. There are seven different learning styles. I want to know all these learning styles and signs of them to help me learn what learning style my students may have. In doing this I will be able to work with my students and use different teaching strategies to help them learn well.

I hope to set my classroom up so that students with disabilities can move around the classroom easily. It is sometimes hard for students with disabilities to get around desk/tables, open doors, come to the teachers desk, etc. I hope to use this knowledge when I am setting up my classroom. As I said before I want my students to feel welcome and I want the students to feel they are coming to a safe place. I do not want students to dread coming to my class or school. I want them to look forward to coming to my class.

What are my plans?

When I finally graduate I want to have a plan. One thing I want to do with my classroom is to have it full of posters, books, dictionaries, thesaruses, games, etc. The reason for this is because I want my classroom to be inviting to children and parents. I want them to see that my classroom will be fun but also a great learning enviroment. I will have classroom rules on the wall in visible sight to show that my class is strutured and there is also discipline. I also want to have specific goals for the year. I will list a few goals that I want my students to meet but I will also let the students set some goals as well. My goal for my classroom right now is to see each individual student learn and explore new things. Also to see my students progress through the year.

All about me!!

My name is Ashley Cleveland. I got married on May 10, 2008 to Clay Cleveland. I love being married and I love being with my husband. Some other things I really enjoy are reading, spending time with family and friends and Auburn football. I also love kids. This is one reason I want to become a teacher. I was first a nursing major and then I worked in a hospital one summer and decided that was not for me. My dad and I actually sat down to figure out what I might want to change my major to. It only took about 10 min. and he said how about teaching. I was against it at first but when I started thinking about teaching and how I could help children grow up to be whatever they wanted I was hooked. So here I am working on my teaching carrer and trying to learn how I could be the best teacher and role model for kids all ages.
